THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE.

This course acts as a thorough introduction to the fascinating world of antique furniture repair, conservation and refinishing, including French Polishing.

For those thinking of taking up restoration as a career, this course acts as a perfect introduction to all aspects of antique furniture restoration.

You are taken, step by step, carefully, through many of the cabinet repair and traditional hand finishing techniques required in the sympathetic restoration of antique furniture.

You will be shown how to recognise the different woods used in antique furniture. How to spot a fake. How to recognise the age of a piece of furniture by its design and more.

You will receive plenty of one to one tuition. The atmosphere is enthusiastic yet relaxed and the workshop is spacious, light and warm. Each student has their own work bench and selection of cabinet repair tools. You are invited to bring pieces of furniture to the course, these will not always be worked on as the means of demonstrating the many techniques we cover are prepared in advance of the course. However, we will will use your furniture to demonstrate the various techniques on if you wish and if your furniture is suitable. The pieces of furniture you bring will be looked at during the course and a detailed plan of required restoration work will be made so you can restore the pieces after the course (provided the work is not too advanced for your skills). Also, we will will carefully evaluate the pieces originality, age, construction and the woods from which it is made. These pieces of furniture must be packed back into your vehicle after they have been examined as we do not have the space to store them in the workshop during the course. Most of the materials are included in the course fee. You are invited to work at your own pace. Tea and coffee always available.
