THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE.

This course is designed for the beginner. If, however, you do have some previous experience, you will still find this a suitable course, as you will learn our techniques as well as being shown how to develop your existing understanding to a greater depth. You are invited to bring pieces of furniture to the course, these will not always be worked on, as the means of demonstrating the many techniques we cover are prepared in advance of the course. However, we will use your furniture to demonstrate the various techniques on if you wish and if your furniture is suitable. The pieces of furniture you bring will be looked at during the course and a detailed plan of the required restoration work will be made so you can restore the pieces after the course (provided the work is not too advanced for your skills). Also, we will carefully evaluate the pieces originality, age, construction and woods from which it is made. These pieces of furniture must be packed back into your vehicle after they have been examined as we do not have the space to store them in the workshop during the course.

You are taken, step by step, carefully through the basic hand finishing techniques required to preserve and enhance original antique surfaces. You will learn how to completely refinish a piece of antique furniture, preserving what remains of the original colour and patina, building up an authentic antique finish. You will also learn about the different woods used, how to spot a fake and recognise the true age of a piece of antique furniture and more. The cost of polishing materials is included in the course fee.

You will receive plenty of one to one tuition. The atmosphere is enthusiastic yet relaxed and the workshop is spacious, light and warm. Each student has his or her own extensive range of specialist's polishing materials and equipment. You are invited to work at your own pace. Tea and coffee always available. The course runs from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm - Lunch - then from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, with tea breaks at 11:00 am and 4:00 pm. Except on Fridays when the course concludes at 4:30pm after lunch.
